Recently, Court Reporters and Stenographers have been featured in the spotlight in some of our favorite TV shows and movies. While most of these characters’ roles are minor, we are still able to catch a glimpse of these pros in their natural environment. Here are just a few of some of our favorite Court Reporter Cameos!

 

1. Kramer vs. Kramer (1979)

Ted Kramer is a career man for whom his work comes before his family. His wife, Joanna, cannot take it anymore, so she decides to leave him. When he has learned to adjust his life to these new responsibilities, Joanna resurfaces and wants Billy back. Ted, however, refuses to give him up, so they go to court to fight for the custody of their son.

In this emotional scene, you can catch a quick glimpse of the court reporter.

2. Arrested Development – Season 3, Episode 10 “Faking It”

The wildly dysfunctional Bluth family was once at the height of real estate development in Orange County, California. But soon after their father goes to prison for embezzling in the family business and they’re suddenly found penniless with their assets frozen.

In the scene below, the family is orchestrating a mock trial for an upcoming deposition. Check out the court reporter in the background along with the (William) hung jury.

3. Liar Liar (1997)

Fletcher Reede is an incredibly successful lawyer who has built his career by lying. After ditching his son, Max, numerous times for work, Max wishes that for one whole day his dad could not tell a lie. When the wish comes true, Fletcher is forced to tell the truth and not lie.

In this hilariously famous “and the truth shall set you free” scene, you’ll catch flashes of the court reporter.

4. The Blacklist – Season 2, Episode 215 “The Major”

Elizabeth Keen, a new FBI profiler has her entire life uprooted when a mysterious criminal, Raymond Reddington, on the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted List turns himself in and insists on speaking with her. In this episode, Agent Keen is questioned in court as a suspect in a murder case, causing her relationship between Red and their task force to create tension.

 5. The Office – Season 4, Episode 8 “The Deposition”

This “mockumentary” documents the exploits of a paper supply company, Dunder Mifflin, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In this episode, head chief Michael Scott is put in an awkward position when Jan sues Dunder Mifflin for wrongful termination and he is deposed as a witness.

In this hilarious scene, the court reported receives a speaking role!
