STAR Members Shine in Las Vegas

The National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) honored STAR Member Nancy Varallo with its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) at the Premier Session held during the 2017 NCRA Convention in Las Vegas.NCRA’s DSA recognizes the distinguished work and service by an individual member for the benefit of the court reporting profession. Nancy is a 30-year veteran of court reporting and a past NCRA president.  Nancy is not only a STAR member but a frequent speaker and vendor at STAR events.

STARtech17 is just around the corner.  Your STAR board and committees have been hard at work getting ready for the spring convention in Houston.  At STARcon16, I talked about your need to learn how to market yourself as a “business.” Many thanks to Rosalie Kramm and Kimberley Neeson for creating an exciting agenda that will give you strategies to help you accomplish your goals.  We’re also excited to have the infamous Cindy Lynch who has agreed to three full days of Case CATalsyt and Luminex training.

What Court Reporting Students Can Learn from a Future Neurosurgeon

We placed an ad for rental of a small office in our suite that was answered by a Harvard Medical School student who needs a quiet place to study for his upcoming exam.  Our space is conveniently located close to his apartment and MGH.  He needs the office for three months, October through December, his examination falling on December 30^th.  He is already quite accomplished, having previously earned a Master of Health Science degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health before deciding to go to medical school with the goal of eventually becoming a neurosurgeon.
